L’homme Jacquemus

L'Homme Jacquemus SS'19 Show
Le Gadjo, La bomba’s younger brother. A light, breezy Menswear collection showcased on a sunny, hidden Marseille beach where Jacquemus male models walked sand-toed by the shore. We saw bright colours and simple silhouettes, most marked by the designer’s signature Men’s lanyard pouch.

Jacquemus was first brought to our attention for his AW '18 collection and celebrated for ‘La bomba’ SS’18 Womenswear  collection which swept a fresh seaside air  through France and the fashion world. His most popular product, Le sac Espelho, a smooth microbag that comes in leather or suede, reminiscent of the 50s. Almost instantly everyone was wearing a Jacquemus something: Rihanna with a yellow Mini bag and Beyoncé in bumblebee flounce skirt.

La Bomba - Short Film
This current collection felt exactly like a fun, younger brother to the La Bomba big sister, cushioned by the beautiful Calanque de Sormiou seascape, suffused with French hip-hop music, “Tu Me Plais” and “Bo Gosse”. Jacquemus had nothing to prove, we were but guests in his Mediterranean island world where the breeze is always available and runs like a thread through all his clothes.

In a season where Menswear is taken all a bit too seriously- up north in the nation’s capital-(the current utilitarian trend: hyper functional accessories and body bags, serious jackets and combat trousers. Not to forget the inescapable dad shoe) it was refreshing to see men barefoot, enjoying themselves; the warm tones, sandy cream shorts and sandals gently spoke of summer getaway in the South of France.
The barefooted models reminded us of the playfulness of our youth and brought us closer to Jacquemus’ ever fun and evergreen vision.
